Programme Director: Can you empower youth and community through orchestral music?
For the right candidate, this role may be hybrid-remote. Our well-established social change programme has a rare opening. The staff and volunteers of Sistema Whangārei are ready to support a new director who has leadership, creative vision and practical skills to change the world through music. This is a paid position. Our ideal candidate will be someone who has a background in youth education and music, proven leadership experience, an unquenchable thirst for positive social change, a network of contacts and imagination to make great things happen for our young people. Sistema Whangarei - Toi Akorangi is a visionary movement based on the proven El Sistema model from Venezuela, South America, that transforms the lives of youth through ensemble music; a new model for social change. Our mission is to empower children by providing an intensive music programme that teaches the importance of teamwork, promotes self-confidence and self-expression, and instils the value of social responsibility. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to el Sistema’s philosophy of social change through ensemble music and the mission of Sistema Whangarei, including an approach that embraces youth development and the whole child, and a focus on family and community engagement. Our goals are to strengthen the spirit, and foster making positive choices, creating an environment of “anything is possible” for self and others. Our mission is to deliver this innovative, community based, El-Sistema inspired programme for our young people, beginning in early childhood, such that their experience as they are growing up is one of a ‘sense of place’ and a passion for life and music. Our Values include Manaakitanga: Hospitality, kindness, generosity, support - the process of showing respect, generosity and care and compassion for others. |
